What's new in 4.0

4.0 is the first release where iOS, web, and marketing share the same tokens. Every change below is in service of that consolidation.

Version 4.0 · The Consolidation

One token layer.
Three surfaces.

We merged the iOS and Web libraries into a single token source, rewrote the type name-mapping, and shipped Motion as a foundational layer for the first time.

New

Motion foundation

Six canonical easings and four duration tokens. Every transition in product now uses these — handoff notes call them by name.

New

Materials & surfaces

Five semantic surface tokens (default, canvas, muted, inverse, cream) replace hand-picked backgrounds.

New

Name-mapping page

Canonical translation between Cloaked-internal type names (Headline 2 · 32 / SemiBold) and iOS Dynamic Type (.title1) now lives on Typography.

Updated

Typography rebuilt on STK Bureau Sans

Urbanist retired. STK Bureau Sans is the single dashboard + marketing face, with SF Pro (iOS) and Roboto (Android) for native surfaces.

Updated

Spacing scale extended to 120

New --space-14 token for marketing hero rhythm. Nothing in product changes — this is additive.

Updated

Buttons — sizes locked to 48 / 40 / 32

Large 48, Medium 40, Small 32. One pill shape, three tiers (primary / secondary / tertiary), used identically across iOS, Android, dashboard, and marketing.

Breaking

--color-brand renamed to --accent-primary

Semantic tokens are now the only supported API. Rename is mechanical — a codemod lives in the release notes.

Breaking

Old elevation tokens removed

shadow-card, shadow-dialog, shadow-popover replaced with the numeric shadow-1…6 scale.
